Can I bring my web app idea to life with AI?
From my experience, yes, it is possible to bring a web app idea to life with AI. But AI did not build Share by Code with one prompt, and I did not just sit back and watch. It was a tool I worked with, step by step.
I knew a little HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I liked web development, but I had not studied it deeply. Building a complete, well-structured website still felt like a big challenge. At first, I thought about hiring someone, explaining my idea, and asking them to build it for me. My field is electrical engineering and embedded systems, so web development was something I enjoyed but had not explored in depth.
Seeing someone build with AI
One day, I saw my friend Khalil Zammeli building a website live on YouTube. He was creating Voiceover.tn, a Tunisian voiceover marketplace, from scratch with AI. Watching him work through the project inspired me. It showed me that I could start my own project too, even if I had a lot to learn.
After a while, I started working on Share by Code. I used AI to help me plan the site and understand the steps involved. It guided me through setting up a Cloudflare Tunnel and using Cloudflare R2 to store files. It also helped me build an admin interface, understand how to hash passwords, and set up cron jobs for regular cleanup.
There were many smaller things too: improving the page structure, fixing bugs, and figuring out how the different parts of the site work together. I did not always know the right question to ask at first. I learned by explaining what I wanted, reading the suggestions, trying them, and asking more questions when something did not make sense.
Patience and focus matter
To use AI well, I think you need patience and focus. Read what it suggests and choose what makes sense for your project. AI can make mistakes, so do not accept every answer without checking it. Having some knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript helped me explain what I wanted and understand the changes it suggested.
That knowledge also helped when I needed to fix or change something. Instead of asking AI to do everything without understanding it, I could look at the code, ask questions, and learn what was happening. Step by step, I built the site and learned more about how it works.
AI can help you bring an idea to life, but a person still needs to guide it. You decide what you want to build, review the suggestions, test the result, and choose what is right for your project. For me, AI made Share by Code possible, and the process helped me grow my own knowledge too.
